Q: What is your inspiration?
A: Art is inspired by art.
Q: What artists or movements do you see your work as being related to?
A: Constructive tendencies of the twentieth century in general, with a strong focus on minimalism and early conceptual art.
Q: Do you have any upcoming projects?
A: Yes, I have an upcoming solo show at the Museum der Wahrnehmung (Museum of Perception) in Graz, Austria in September.
Q: Could you please describe your technique and process?
A: I usually work on several lines or problems or work groups at the same time. This creates interaction and crossovers and finally development.
Q: How did you first get involved with art?
A: When I started school in the 1970s, a group of friends and I published a little magazine on art and literature. That’s how it started.
Q: Who are your favorite artists?
A: This changes regularly, at the present, maybe Botticelli (again).
Q: How did you start using foil rather than paint or another medium?
A: I see my work more in the tradition of sculpture and space rather than painting. Using foil, which has a real dimension, is like adding skin to a body. I am also uninterested in leaving personal marks. By using foil, it is easy to avoid things like brushstrokes.
Q: How do you arrive at your titles?
A: I like to develop guidelines for my constructions, but there are no rules for titles. They might be spontaneous or associative, mixed or reduced, or a very short form of poetry.
