De Buck Gallery is thrilled to present an exclusive artist spotlight featuring the work of Dominican-American mixed-media artist, Tiffany Alfonseca. This collection of portraits exemplifies Alfonseca’s vibrant and captivating celebration of the Black and Afro-Latinx diaspora, offering a unique perspective on identity, culture, and community.
Alfonseca’s colorful compositions bring to life the essence of her Afro-Dominican roots, portraying the strength and beauty of Black and Latinx communities. Inspired by photos of family and friends, her use of bold colors, textures, and glitter creates dynamic pieces that reflect the cultural richness of everyday life.
Through her work, Alfonseca explores themes of Afro-Latinidad, colorism, and Dominican culture, drawing on her personal experiences in Washington Heights, NYC, and the Dominican Republic. Her pieces have garnered critical acclaim, with Galerie Magazine recently highlighting her work as a standout at EXPO CHICAGO. Paul Laster remarked, “Alfonseca’s paintings highlight contemporary Black figures in the act of doing everyday things. Her use of materials and her ability to create enchanting, realistic portraits are truly remarkable.” Earlier this year, the Rockwell Museum added Alfonseca’s work to its permanent collection, recognizing her rising influence and commitment to celebrating marginalized voices.
