De Buck Gallery is delighted to share two online presentations, “Spotlight: Philip Colbert,” an online exhibition of paintings and sculpture; and “Philip Colbert: 10 Lobstars,” an exclusive selection for the gallery of Colbert’s recent Lobstars NFTs which come paired with a unique digital print.
Colbert is a UK-based artist often referred to as “the godson of Andy Warhol” whose practice spans paintings, sculpture, and large-scale installations as well as NFT minting. His works feature clever mash-ups of references as much to elements of the digital realm (his paintings feature emojis, screensaver-like graphics and images of web browser windows) as they do to his artistic forebears such as Pablo Picasso, Fernand Leger, and George Condo.
Across the artist’s oeuvre, a certain character takes the spotlight: the lobster. Appearing in his paintings, and sculpture, the character (which is also something of a stand-in for the artist) most recently, The Lobstars.
Colbert is a graduate of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, UK, where he received a Masters in Philosophy. He has exhibited at internationally-recognized institutions, including the Tate Modern, London (2015); Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam (2015); Times Art Museum, Chongqing (2021); Sejong Art Centra, Seoul (2021); Modern Art Museum, Shanghai (2020); Saatchi Gallery, London (2020); Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow (2020); and Chengdu Museum of Contemporary Art, Chengdu (2018). Colbert has also collaborated with luxury brands such as Bentley Motors, Rolex, Montblanc, Christian Louboutin, COMME des GARÇONS, and Adidas.
