The Armory Show 2026
Javits Center, New York · September 24th - 27th, 2026
De Buck returns to The Armory Show with a presentation centred on a dialogue between two generations of Belgian artists: Roger Raveel and Gommaar Gilliams.
At its heart is a group of new paintings by Gilliams, whose oil, oil stick and acrylic are worked into pre painted and stitched fabrics. The visible seams, layered surfaces and constructed canvases reflect an ongoing exploration of what a painting can be.
These works are presented in conversation with a selection of works on paper by Roger Raveel, spanning 1962 to 1992. A leading figure of Belgium’s Nieuwe Visie, Raveel developed a visual language in which abstraction and everyday reality continually intersect.
Separated by generations, Raveel and Gilliams share an interest in pushing painting beyond the conventional picture plane through material, construction, abstraction and the transformation of familiar forms. Their dialogue creates a line between postwar Belgian experimentation and contemporary painting today.
The presentation is complemented by select works by Devan Shimoyama.
All works are available for viewing at the booth and by appointment.
