Sam Francis Exclusive Selection at De Buck Gallery

De Buck Gallery is pleased to offer a selection of works on paper by acclaimed artist Sam Francis (1923-1994), dating from the 1950s to 1980s. A key figure of the second generation of American Abstract Expressionism, Francis is recognized for his role in bringing the movement to international attention in Europe and Asia. Having spent much of the 1950s in Paris, Francis returned to California in 1960, and thus is credited with bringing a West Coast sensibility, and a link to color field painting, to the previously New York based school of Abstract Expressionism.

Throughout Francis’ lengthy career, his style remained recognizably consistent as he cycled through a number of now iconic motifs integrating grids, squares, blots and other geometric and abstract fields of vibrant color. The works available by De Buck Gallery, new to the market, offer a fantastic overview of Francis’ stylistic evolution throughout this fertile period.
