Fashion Victim, 2015

The title of Fashion Victim, in Wright’s words, refers to the sense of disappointment that often follows living one’s life according to lifestyle trends – purchasing materialistic items as status symbols to manifest one’s identity to the outside world. With a series of pins, the enormous butterfly is crucified, just as there exists today a number of collectors of butterflies displayed in this manner. The beauty and perceived innocence of the creature draws out the viewer’s sympathies towards it.
